Showcasing - Black History Month
When learning about Black History Month and choosing significant individuals and their lasting legacy, we have chosen to study Learie Constantine in upper school because of his strong links to our locality and his role as a pioneering cricketer and advocate of civil rights. As many of our learners have a passion for cricket, we felt it was important to ensure they understand how significant Learie Constantine was not only for Nelson and cricket but nationally in making advances in Black Civil Rights. Our learners have the opportunity to visit the places of significant they will learn about in the lessons e.g. Nelson Cricket Club and his previous address which has been commemorated by a blue plaque.
Please take a look at five examples of our information texts about this significant individual and his lasting legacy that the learners have worked so hard on!
