Lomeshaye Junior School Remote Learning Plan

Aspire – Believe - Achieve

In order to ensure that learning is continued, irrespective of lockdown and self-isolation, Lomeshaye Junior School has developed the following plan. This plan offers remote learning opportunities whilst also acknowledging that some households have limited access to devices and would require hard-copies of work and resources.

This plan will be applied in the following instances:
•    a child is isolating while the rest of the class remain in school.
•    a year group bubble/whole school closure
•    a teacher is isolating but class and TA remain in school.

The plan complies with the expectations and principles outlined in the DFE document Guidance for Full Opening of Schools and the statutory requirement to deliver blending learning.

Software and online platforms

When planning for remote learning teachers will set appropriate work in line with our current curriculum intentions on the Seesaw online learning journal, making good use of resources which include LBQ, Oak Academy, TT Rockstars, Epic Reading, BBC Bitesize, White Rose etc where appropriate. Children will remain in contact with their teacher through Seesaw posts. School staff will call home weekly to ‘check in’ with parents and children.
The children will only be asked to continue their learning at home via software and platforms that they are already familiar with and have used in class in order to allow the children to move easily between face to face and remote learning. We are in the early stage of introducing Microsoft Teams which may be used for timetabled weekly live lessons in due course.

In the event of any form of isolation and loss of learning caused by Coronavirus, parents must understand that engagement in home learning is compulsory, as is the expectation that Lomeshaye Junior School makes that provision available and accessible to all.

However, if children themselves are too ill to attend then they should not be expected to engage in home learning. Parents need to also understand that this could also be the teacher who falls ill and that the school will make their best endeavours to continue with the remote learning provision.

In preparation for home-learning, parents and children need to receive logins and passwords for the following platforms:
•    Seesaw
•    TT Rockstars
•    Microsoft Teams (in due course)
They will also have an exercise book in which they have the completed home school agreement, time table and presentation guidelines.

Reading

The children will be required to read regularly at home and may be directed via websites such as Epic Reading and Read Theory.

Remote Learning

If a child is isolated from school i.e. the child is sent home from school to either receive a test or self-isolate as someone in the household is being tested, they will leave school with their Seesaw code, exercise book, remote learning home school agreement and log in details for websites. Children will have an immediate opportunity to continue their learning by Reading and using TT Rockstars and will be able to access Seesaw activities by the following morning at the latest.

We recognise that not all households have suitable digital devices for remote learning and in certain circumstances will provide paper copies of learning activities. This will only be if the work can not be accessed online and not due to personal preference for offline learning.

Pupil needs to isolate because someone in their household is symptomatic or tests positive

Ongoing Support

The teacher will upload learning materials on Seesaw which the child will complete independently. They can complete their work on Seesaw or in their Remote Learning book which they can then photograph and upload to Seesaw for timely feedback. Alternatively, they can submit the work for feedback on their return to school.

If teaching input is required for core lessons, the online learning platforms/software named above will be used and children will be directed to the appropriate links within the activities.
The teacher will share a daily check in form for children to talk about their feelings and worries.

A whole bubble/cohort of children is isolating because of an outbreak of coronavirus

Ongoing Support

The teacher will upload learning materials on Seesaw which the child will complete independently. They can complete their work on Seesaw or in their Remote Learning book which they can then photograph and upload to Seesaw for timely feedback. If teaching input is required for core lessons, the online learning platforms/software named above will be used and children will be directed to the appropriate links within the activities. The child will upload their work to Seesaw and will receive feedback regularly.
The teacher will schedule tasks and breaks closely aligned to the normal school timetable. In due course, Microsoft Teams may also be used to facilitate live or prerecorded lesson input on a timetable to avoid clashes with other siblings needing to access digital devices. This would always pay due regard to Safeguarding policies for appropriate online behaviour.
The teacher will share a daily check in form for children to talk about their feelings and worries.
If the class teacher is unwell, the other year group colleagues and teaching assistants will support the sharing of Seesaw activities.

Ongoing Support
If the class teacher is isolating but well, the other year group colleagues and teaching assistants will support the class by providing work. The children will be able to share work via Seesaw if the teacher requests it and they may additionally use Teams to direct teach remotely either live or by sharing prerecorded video, supported by the class teaching assistant. This would always pay due regard to Safeguarding policies for appropriate online behaviour.

Remote Learning Home School Agreement

If your child is asked to individually isolate or isolate as part of a ‘bubble’, it is vitally important that all pupils continue to learn and make progress. In order for this to happen, pupils, teachers and parents have worked collaboratively to create the expectations below.

As a pupil I will:

  • Check-in each morning between 8.45 and 9.30am.
  • Use and follow the timetable to structure my school day.
  • Read all instructions carefully.
  • Complete all of my work to a high standard online or in our workbook.
  • Ask my teacher for help if I need it by writing a comment on SeeSaw.

As teachers we will:

  • Monitor check-ins (8.45-9.30) and call pupils who have not begun their school day.
  • Ensure we are available to pupils and parents for the duration of the school day.
  • Provide a variety of engaging tasks to be completed online and in the workbook, without the need of constant parent tutoring or supervision.
  • Respond to completed work, offering individual or whole class support where needed – via written, audio and video feedback.
  • Celebrate, share and reward pupil’s work which is completed to a high standard.

As parents/guardians we will:

  • Ensure our child is ready to check-in and start the school day by 8.45am.
  • Check regularly that our child is completing their work to a high standard and following the timetable.
  • Ask for assistance or report issues via SeeSaw or request a phone call from the class teacher via the school office.
